Trans & Non-Binary Fit & Sizing

Hello LGBTQ customers! We often get questions from the trans or non-binary community about Basewear. Please note that we are doing our best to provide what we can within our means. We do have several trans and non-binary customers, as well as a larger portion of LGBTQ folks who love Basewear. Our goal is always to do our best to provide a pleasant experience in delving into the world of fit and sizing. We do want to set the expectation that everyone's body and preferences are unique, so there may be some trying on needed to find the fit for you.

FAQ from our LGBTQ customers

Question: What is Tera Kaia's stance on the LGBTQ+ Community?

Answer: We're women + queer owned and run, and big advocates for LGBTQ rights. Our local shop in Bishop is partnered with Eastern Sierra Pride to help ship out their merch. We truly adore our local LGBTQ2SIA+ community and all they have done for this area.

Question: Do you make products for Trans Women?

Answer: Our Basewear is created for all women: Cis or Trans. That said, none of our products are designed specifically to solve these fit questions. We do have many trans women who wear all our products, and we can provide you with as much information as you need in the process of discovering your perfect fit. Please note that everyone's body is different and you may have a unique experience with fit and sizing. Please read the section below for more tips!

Question: Do you make products for Trans Men?

Answer: No, unfortunately, we do not make any products specifically designed for Men: Cis* or Trans. We believe that clothing should be designed for a person, by someone who is intimately understanding of their unique sizing conundrums that need solving. That's not us, as we're a team of all women. However, we can advocate for a few great clothing companies that specialize in this including https://www.bothandapparel.com/ and https://tomboyx.com/

Question: Does Tera Kaia provide representation for the Trans community?

Answer: Yes! Take a look at our product pages, as we generally have trans models making an appearance there.

Question: As a Non-Binary person which Basewear products are best for me?

Answer: This is entirely up to you and your style preference. We understand that some gender dysphoria may have shaped the experience of shopping for clothing and we do our best to make sure everyone gets into a product that makes them feel the most themselves. Feel free to reach out to the team at orders@terakaia.com if you'd like any assistance in the fit process.

*Customers of all gender identities are welcome in our store both in person and online. You do not have to fit into a specific gender category to be welcomed into our community and get some Basewear. If you are a person who is interested in Basewear privately and would like to shop our products with discretion please just mention this in the notes and we will do our best to accommodate.

Here are a few Basewear selection tips from our existing customers who are Trans Women :

  • Low Cut - if you have not had any top surgeries our TOURA Low Cut is a great fit for if you like something with a bit less coverage, or if you have a muscular build.
  • High Cut - also a big favorite among customers with no top surgeries, but also can accommodate up to a DD cup.
  • Crop Top - great for wearing as a stand-alone top for any cup size, or if you have had top surgery with a larger cup size (DD-DDD).
  • Please note that all our current Basewear Tops are considered "Low Impact": this means their purpose isn't to be ultra-supportive or compressive but rather to feel super comfortable like you have nothing on.

Bottoms: Our bottoms are also totally based on personal preference and body type.

  • TOURA Thong + Brief - we do have trans customers who both have and have not had bottoms surgery and who love to wear these. It does depend on your personal preference though, and the gusset width is around 3"
  • MARA High Waist - these provide a bit more coverage and the gusset - width is a bit wider at 3.5"
  • TOURA Shorts - ultra compressive, and a horizontal gusset that has double-mesh breathability. I haven't heard back from customers about the tuck-friendliness of these so if this is you and if you try them out please let us know your feedback. You can email orders@terakaia.com with any wear testing feedback you'd like to share.

We hope that all of this helps you have a great experience finding Basewear. If you're still not sure, we recommend grabbing whatever appeals to you in your size. Try it on and if something doesn't work we offer free exchanges, and our team is here to help you with any fit questions.
